It has been a while since I have had a chance to update the site. Since November I have been pulling double duty as Pastor of the Church of the Overcomers and Messianic Rabbi of Kehillot Beth Tikvah (House of Hope) Messianic Jewish Congregation. I stepped down from my position at the House of Hope mid-July, took a much needed vacation and am finally working on the site again.
You may not notice much of a difference but we built our own blog (and opened up comments to all), added news and events, and helpful links. We also automated the podcast uploading process so that the sermons can be posted in a timely manner (The last post was in May 2007).
Enjoy.
When Jesus told the disciples in Acts chapter one to tarry in Jerusalem until they receive power from the Holy Spirit, He told them that they would be witnesses to the world. How disappointing to realize that the church has forgotten the purpose of power. To witness. Holy Ghost power is not just a song sung in Pentecostal churches, nor a feeling to be practiced in the confines of a Charismatic church. It is a power to continue in the ministry of Christ, of Messiah, to tell the Good News of His coming and His kingdom. To tell your story, your testimony, of how Jesus truly changed your life. If there is no change in your life, you have not received Him. Sorry to be so blunt about the truth, but the Word of God is that blunt. Some “Christians” need to wake from their sleep and realize the truth, repent from their sins, experience the power of forgiveness, and the washing of regeneration possible through the Holy Spirit. If any man or woman be in Christ, he or she is a new creature. If you have not received this truth, then receive it now and ask God to do it.
If you call yourself spirit-filled you should be on the streets ministering. Take off your fancy hats and fancy suits, put on a t-shirt and jeans, step out of your stadium seats and tell someone about Jesus. Supporting foreign missions is great, keep supporting, but YOU are to do domestic missions in your neighborhood, town, city, or suburb. Don’t think you can “pay” someone else to be your witness.
You don’t need to take a six week course on how to be a witness, you need only a ten-minute encounter with God to equip you with everything you need to tell others about what He has done for you.
Holy Ghost power is the power to be His witness. Affirm to tell the truth, the whole truth so help you God.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” - John 3:16; Rom 10:14-15(KJV)
God loved us enough to give his only begotten Son, but do we love God enough to share this truth with the world?
“Time to blog”
It is hard to find time to write with a full-time job, ministry and
family. Things are going well. We had baptisms on Sunday and we are
growing in Christ.
“What’s Up?”
It has been a while since launching the site and the blog.
Things have been in full swing with the ministry.
I
am currently taking Hebrew classes with Rabbi Fuller of the House of
Hope Messianic Jewish Congregation in El Paso. The classes are a
blessing and I look forward to reading and understanding the scriptures
as God originally breathed them. There is a rich cultural and spiritual
understanding that most of us in America miss altogether. I encourage
others that have the gift of teaching to take the time to learn it.
God
opened doors with the staff of Valley View Middle School and they have
allowed the church to hold services in their cafeteria. We have been
there since the 10th and we continue to grow spiritually and in number.
We
have plans to begin hitting the streets of El Paso with the power and
message of God. We will be in prayer and fasting as we train people to
minister. There are too many people dying in our neighborhoods while
the “Church” sits back in their comfortable pews waiting for someone
else to go. People need help and they need it now.
