WHO WE ARE
A vision cannot begin without a clear understanding of who we are. As illustrated by our logo, we are the Church of the Overcomers, we have overcome by the blood of the Lamb which is Jesus Christ. The Lamb always directs us back to the Father, thus the lamb in the logo is looking up to the Father. The blood is illustrated by the oval behind the lamb, it is there as a reminder of what Christ has done lest we forget when we stumble and fall away from the Faith. It is there to provide hope for the sinner that, in Christ, there is redemption and love. The name of the church looks like the words were cut out by hand and placed loosely beside the lamb, this illustrates the removal of holy pretense and revival of transparent holiness. This means living a holy, separated life in the midst of the world and without telling others how holy we are. This is the example of Christ, He communed with sinners that he might win them. He was a living example of God to them, the only God they knew. For His warm interaction with the "non-religious," He was reviled and marginalized. However, this is exactly where the church should be. As a church, we must reach beyond walls, traditions, prejudices, culture and technology. We are a multicultural church, with a desire to develop leaders from various ethnic and denominational backgrounds. Worship and the teaching of the Word are coequally important, the freedom and guidance of the Holy Spirit is essential to every service. We worship differently, we may rock out with God, sing a country hymn or lift our hands with a Gospel choir, whatever we do it will be to worship God with all our heart. We are not trying to be all things to all people, but to be real Christians in a real world.
CHURCHES BUILDING CHURCHES: SPIRITUAL TARGET
People need Jesus and they never “fully” receive Him until they are able to understand the whole counsel of His Word and are led completely by the Holy Spirit. There is more than mere conversion, more than church membership and attendance, more that we are to know through experience. Jesus said “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations…” Effective teaching requires discipleship, time, and genuine caring for people. We must make disciples that make disciples. We must grow churches that grow churches. When it is all said and done, we want to know that we helped prepare Christian men and women who are able to “…teach others also…”We desire to establish a School of Ministry, providing continuing education to pastors and lay ministers. Some of the proposed areas are practical ministry, with the assistance of specialized local organizations, and the ministry of the Holy Spirit, with guest speakers from respected local churches.
SOCIAL ACTION: PHYSICAL TARGET
Because God is just, the life of Christ was a life of social action. There is a need for equal attention given to both spiritual and social responsibility, the same amount of time should be given to God and the people who share this earth with us. We need to do our part through prayer, public ministry and political action. We are here to build people, not buildings. We are looking for creative people with new ideas on reaching the El Paso community and to share in the refining and carrying out the vision. We desire to collaborate with non-profit and faith-based organizations, other respected pastors, churches of various denominations, public school districts, and governmental agencies to assist the impoverished and vulnerable.
